Hatherop Road Allotments, Hampton
Our 18th Annual Open Day was held on the 9th August, despite the best efforts of the weather to dampen the day.
Various stalls, including local honey, jams & preserves, cakes and plants, helped to make the event a great success, not to mention the BBQ and the entertainment laid on by Keith Hayman, Cliff Richards' keyboard player.
We had a junior exhibition for the children, and a large hedgehog designed by Ella won. A large sack growing potatoes kept people guessing “how many potatoes were in the bag.” This competition was also won by Ella. Well done Ella!
The best plot and winner of the Markhole Cup went to Janice King, with the best “newcomer” plot going to Colin & Rosalie Keats. New for this year was “The Best Produce Display” and the Maureen Woodriff Memorial Rose Bowl was won by the Chairman Mike Wren, who stated “the judge was not bribed.” The last winner of the day was for the heaviest marrow competition which was won by Brian Saddler. The Prizes were presented by Vincent Cable MP and Bryan Woodriff.
